During 2009 and 2010, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) conducted three surveys, one with each of these groups: school board members, directors of school district health services departments, and local (county) health officers or directors of public health departments. Coordinated school health (CSH) staff queried participants regarding the current extent of collaboration and communication between LHDs and LEAs. Participants also suggested strategies and tips for improving collaboration and communication between these two entities.
CSH staff compiled the responses produced a 16-page report titled, Guidance Document: Strategies for improving Communication and Collaboration between Local Education Agencies and Local Health Departments. In practical terms, the document serves as a checklist of specific tactics LHDs and LEAs can jointly employ to improve student and staff health.
